5 Great Hairstyles Using Ribbon

Ribbons aren’t just for arts and crafts. They’re inexpensive, versatile accessories you can use to fashion the loveliest hairstyles. Check out these five great and easy hairstyles using ribbon.

Pulled Back Fringe

Pulling back your long fringe with a ribbon is a lovely headband alternative. Start by gathering your fringe and backcombing the area right behind the handful to give your hair more volume. To firmly secure your fringe, tie a small pony tail band around the hair. Then gently pull the tail in two directions before tugging at the front of your hair to make it look like a smooth, natural bump. For a sweet look, curl the ends of your hair with a curling iron. Finish the look by tying a bow around your fringe.

Lovely Lace Ponytail

This simple lace ribbon hairstyle can up anyone’s ponytail game. First, comb your hair to make handling it later easier. Tie your hair in a low ponytail using a black hair band. Then, take your lace ribbon and position it in the middle of your crown, making sure the ends fall evenly, and tie it securely just above your nape. Take the two lace ends and loosely wrap it around your pony tail in a crisscross pattern. If the ribbon is too long, wrap it around the end a few more times before finishing the style with a knot.

Ribbon Maiden Braids

Maiden braids may look complicated, but the first time’s always the hardest. Once you get the hang of it, you’ll be braiding like a pro. Begin by parting your hair in two sections and pin a long ribbon onto the back of your hair. Braid each side using the ribbon as one of the three tails. Once you’re finished, pin the tails on your crown and use as many bobby pins to secure your hair on the sides. Take the excess ribbon and tie a knot on top of your head. You can keep tying until you reach the end or you can make a simple bow to finish the look.

Ropebraid Bun

This ribbon hairstyle can instantly make a boring bun more fun. Tie your hair using an elastic band in a semi-low ponytail, leaving enough space above your nape for the bun. Then, pull your ribbon through the band and let them rest on your shoulders for a while; we’ll get back to those in a bit. With your ponytail divided in two parts, twist them both in the same direction. Grab the ribbon ends and hold them alongside the two sections. Then, twist the two tails around each other in the opposite direction, securing them with another elastic band once you’ve reach the end. Pull on your hair a bit for a softer look. Roll your hair around the base of the ponytail until you’ve created a bun. Secure the bun with bobby pins.

Romantic ‘Do

This romantic ‘do is perfect for those I Do’s on any big day. Start by making a low side part. Gather the heavier section at the side of your head and twist it just above your ears, securing it with a pin. Take your ribbon and pin the end into the twist. Carefully wrap the ribbon around the hair from the twist as you slowly move around the back of the head, gathering more hair as you go along. Once you reach the opposite side of you head, make a final twist and secure that with pins. Gather the lighter section of the part and twist that above the ear towards the braided twist, securing that area where the heavier and lighter twists meet with hair pins. Then, gather all the hair together into a ponytail and wrap the rest of the ribbon around it. Secure the end of the ribbon with bobby pins beneath the ponytail. Backcomb the ponytail to add more volume to your hair.
