In my blogs, I usually talk about things like clothing, makeup, and fashion accessories but during a chat over dinner with friends we talked about other aspects of fashion. Cars can be fashionable. Pets can be fashionable. Accessories for your dog or your cat can be fashionable. So fashion can extend too many different parts of your life. Look at your iPad or smartphone cover. Have you picked something functional or gone with a dash of fashion?
That evening we were having dinner at Jacqueline and Peter’s house. Jackie is herself an interior designer and she believes that furniture is one of the most important aspects of interior space. You cannot only add function and practicality to a room but with a specific piece of furniture, you can also add style and personality.
It’s been quite obvious that over time furniture has evolved from what you can see in the retro 60’s to what we have today. While some styles may have remained reasonably constant throughout the years, others have either changed drastically or entirely disappeared due to obsolescence. Those people that are involved in creating new styles of furniture are sometimes referred to as artists.
There are some trade furniture companies that supply solid wood furniture in a large range of different timbers and designs. As an interior designer, Jackie was finding a far more important market for people that really appreciated the beauty of solid wood furniture. Because some of her clients are in the wealthy category, she has teamed up with the furniture designer who can create practical, comfortable, and attractive furniture to suit any particular room in any home or office. While there are plenty of online stores (check office monster or the likes of it) where you may get furniture, creating a designer furniture of your own has its own charm. She says this guy is very artistic and on request accompanies her to her client’s home and they sit down and discuss what will best fit into the space available.
By using computer software installed on his laptop, he can create an intricate and detailed design available for the client to look at. Some important aspects of the design include how the pieces fit together and what materials are used to make it. Sometimes Jackie plays her fashion card and can show her client an already manufactured piece of furniture that will fit the bill perfectly. The furniture designer she sometimes uses simply creates items that can be mass produced by large furniture manufacturers.
It was easy for us to see after this discussion with Jackie over dinner that fashion really does extend to the furniture in your home and you can either be a little bit out there with your fashionable furniture or stay within the parameters of sensibility. The ultimate fashion client is the person who can put together their pet, the furniture, their car and their clothes into one big mix that shows they are all connected.
