Women’s fashion and all the complications that go with it can make getting dressed on a daily basis either an adventure or an agony. You can’t get any idea of what’s the best thing to wear by watching fashion shows on TV. While the women certainly look elegant, you would have to question what they are actually wearing at times, and it could be jewellery from trusted UK antique dealers, who are mostly the go-to providers of these enviable pieces. My keyword today is “accessorise”! Most well put together people wear accessories. It turns clothes into an outfit.
You can be wearing the chicest looking dress but if your shoes, handbag, belt and jewellery don’t match you will neither be noticed nor complimented. Accessories is not a topic that I would discuss with guys. They don’t have a clue! They cannot understand how you can agonise over the purchase of a handbag or tote as they are often called today. Men can put keys in their pocket, a wallet in the jeans pocket, and on a rainy day carry an umbrella. That’s about as much as they get into accessories as you’re ever going to see. But a woman’s handbag is like a small compartment of her soul.
It’s true we can never find out keys, lipstick, our smartphone even when it’s ringing, our purse with credit cards, or the portable stove that we like to shove into our bags. (I’m kidding about the stove.) We never leave home without our bag. Everything we might ever need in an emergency is held in our handbags. The only time you’ll catch me without a handbag is when I go hiking or I’m on holidays and I replace it with a backpack.
I’m not the type to go out and spend hundreds of quid on a bag either. A price range of £30-£80 is going to get you a high-quality tote. The only decision you need to make when you go shopping is the style and the colour. And here’s where it gets tricky. You have to have all your other accessories like belts and shoes that you currently own catalogued in your mind as you riffle through the selection of bags in a store. And here’s another thing guys don’t understand. If you buy a new design and colour handbag, then you must purchase the accompanying accessories. You cannot, and must not, mismatch these items when you get dressed to go out.
It’s difficult being a woman isn’t it? Some of the mind shattering decisions we have to make on fashion and how we look sets us apart from our cavemen partners. If allowed, a man’s clothing cupboard would be considered to be adequately stocked if it had one pair of flip-flops, one pair of shoes, a pair of jeans, two pairs of shorts, one dress shirt, 25 T-shirts, and a tatty old jacket! They think they look rugged. We women believe that they just dress carelessly. Enter the inhabitants of Venus and Mars!
