For some people, going to the gym is a great way to get fit, but for others, it’s their worst nightmare. If you find the gym boring and monotonous it can be hard to push yourself – or to drag yourself there after work – so you might not see the results you’re hoping for. But exercise doesn’t have to be dull. Try out these ideas to make getting fit and healthy more enjoyable.
Get Fit at Home
As well as exercise DVDs, there are tons of games that can help you get fit at home, whether you have a Wii, PlayStation or Xbox. Choose dance for a higher impact work out, or yoga to improve your tone and flexibility. There’ll be no more monthly gym fees, just buy your game and away you go!
Move Your Feet
Walking is a great and free way to get fit. It can reduce stress, increase muscle tone, and even boost your metabolism. It’s also incredibly easy to fit into your daily routine. Walk briskly to the bus stop, take the stairs instead of the elevator, and walk the dog. Involve a friend or your partner and make walking part of your relaxing Sunday. It’s best to invest in a waterproof, as you never know what the British weather has in store! Regatta has a great range to suit you and your significant other.
Put on Your Dancing Shoes
Think you can do a better job than the celebrities on Strictly Come Dancing? Find a good pair of dancing shoes for beginners, join a dance class and have fun while you keep fit. Try out tap or ballet, or choose something a little different and go for ballroom, street, or lindy hop.
Try A Class
There are classes in every town offering aerobics, yoga and Pilates. But if they’re not for you, try a hula hoop or Zumba class. Or for the more adventurous, try a circus acts class where you can master the trapeze and acrobatics.
Get on Your Bike
Cycling is a great weekend activity that will help you tone up, lose weight and it’ll improve your cardiovascular health. Cycling is low impact so it’s great if you have knee problems. You can even log your rides and track your progress with a cycling app.
If the gym isn’t your idea of exercise, don’t worry. Get fit and enjoy the great outdoors, or exercise in your front room, while still achieving excellent results.
